How we work
Rentable Spaces for you
Our sleepouts and cabins for rent all work the same way.
First you work out what kind of space you need:
If you want a space with a full bathroom and a kitchenette, then you need to look at our self-contained cabins for rent.
If you just need a warm, dry, comfortable space without facilities, have a look at our sleepouts to rent.
Once you know what sort of rentable spaces you need, have a look at what we offer and choose a size and layout of sleepout or cabin to suit you and your location. Then contact us and we can talk about your site, how long you want the rental for, confirm the access and quote for delivery.
Then you sign on the dotted line, and we deliver the cabin or sleepout to your place and position it exactly where you want it. It’s up to you to have the site ready for your rental space and to secure the building once it is in place (more about that below).
For the self-contained cabins you just need to get any services hooked up (drinking water, sewage and gas bottles for cabins), secure your cabin or sleepout to the ground, move in and start using your rentable space.
Once you don’t need the extra space anymore, contact us, disconnect the services and we’ll come and pick up your rental cabin or sleepout and take it away. Easy!
Upper Hutt Storage
Using our Upper Hutt storage units and storage space is easy. If you need to store things inside then you need one of our dry, secure 20ft storage containers.
If what you want to store can live outside, say a boat, caravan, campervan, or trailer, just give us a call to discuss your Upper Hutt storage needs.
FAQ
Sleepouts and Cabin for rent
Do you have a minimum sleepout or cabin rental period?
Yes, our minimum period is 6 months but we sometimes do shorter term leases by arrangement.
Do I have to pay a bond to rent one of your cabins?
Yes, bond is 4 weeks rent.
Is there a delivery charge?
Yes, which depends on access. Contact us for an estimate.
What areas do you deliver cabins and sleepouts to?
We cover Wellington, the Hutt Valley, Wairarapa, the Kapiti Coast and South Manawatu up to Fielding and Palmerston North.
How often do I have to pay rent?
Weekly, fortnightly or monthly in advance. You will receive an invoice via email as per the frequency you have chosen on your rental contract.
Do I need council consent for your units?
It is best to check with your local council, but generally anything over 30m2 or anything with facilities needs Council Consent. We only supply the cabins; we do not take care of the building consent process.
How much space do I need to get my cabin/sleepout delivered?
Our sleepouts and cabins for rent are currently 3.09 metres wide so the driveway needs to have a 3.3 metres width minimum. The unit sits on top of a 1.2-1.5 metre truck deck so allow 4.5m.
So, provided the driveway is wide enough, it should be easy to deliver a portable building, but it all depends on where you want the unit located and if there is anything in the way, e.g. trees, power lines etc. We can organize for our trucking company to check out your site and quote the delivery.
How are the cabins for rent connected to services?
We only supply the unit. The customer is responsible for connecting the services as they see appropriate for their site. This includes the 3 x water connections. The unit comes with a gas infinity (but no gas bottles) and a 15m long caravan plug with a lead that connects to the main house.
What ground preparation is required?
The cabins and sleepouts come on steel or timber bearers as part of the subfloor. They need to be kept off the ground with timber blocks. You can then anchor the unit to the ground with Duckbill Anchors. Alternatively, you can install piles and connect the unit with B55 brackets to the piles. Securing the unit to the ground is required and is the customer's responsibility.
What are your cabins and sleepouts made of?
All the cabins and sleepouts that Rentable Spaces hire out are constructed to a high standard with ceiling, floor and external wall insulation, and double-glazed doors and windows. They are cool in summer, easy to heat in winter and comfortable and pleasant to use all year round.
Upper Hutt storage units and space
What are the dimensions of your storage units?
The storage units that we have in Upper Hutt, Wellington are 20ft shipping containers. These have the following internal dimensions:
Height = 2.38m
Width = 2.35m
Length = 5.9m
This gives a total internal volume that is useable for self-storage of around 33 cubic metres.
What padlock do I need for my storage unit?
Most higher security padlocks will work for locking your storage container. As the containers have lock boxes on them that protect the padlock from attack or cutting, you need a padlock that locks from below. Disc style padlocks don’t work inside a lock box.
You can buy a standard style padlock to use on your storage unit, but a container specific shutter padlock works best.
If you have any questions about what lock to use, we are happy to help you, just contact us.
What else can I store?
We have no shortage for storage of items that don’t need to go into one of our storage units.
Items we are happy to store for you include:
Cars
Boats
Caravans
Campervans
Trailers
Machinery and equipment
If you have something unusual you want to securely store, contact us, we should be able to help.
How secure is your storage?
Our storage area is fully fenced, floodlit, and has CCTV security operating 24 hours a day. Once you have something stored in our Upper Hutt storage units, or space, you get 24 hours access via our 6m automatic gate.
